:eek:My instruction above, to check connections on the CD drive, was assuming you have a desktop computer when you haven't actually told me what your computer is:eek: (I did ask in post 15:))

All well and good if yours is a desktop. If it is a laptop please let me have the make and model number. And I will also add that if it is a laptop the chance of the connections coming loose is extremely unlikely so I can feel quite confident in advising you to get a new CD drive.:)

Markmadras-First of all, thank you for your patience. I had already deleted the Filters before I read your post, no big deal, Itunes can tell me how to put them back.
Sorry I forgot to tell you about the PC. HP Pavilion-1630n, running Windows XP Media Center Addition 2005.
Well, I guess next I'll try unplugging the CD Player. Do you happen to know if it starts working will the Magic Jack be in there to. Can 2 things work on one drive?

OK, first, thanks for the model info and now that I know we are dealing with a desktop my instructions, re the connections on the CD drive, are correct so please go ahead (with the computer unplugged) and check the connections.

When you were using the MagicJack and it appeared to be using your CD drive it was actually just using the drive letter, but only because the CD drive was ( as far as the computer knew) not connected. When your CD drive is replaced or the old one starts to work again it will take on the original drive letter. Then when you plug in the MagicJack it will automatically take the next two available drive letters, it won't share a drive letter with anything else. All the drives have their own drive letter and this would include seperate partitions on a hard drive, CD drives, floppy drives, etc.

The only other check you could make, as I suggested before, is to borrow a CD drive from another computer and plug it in to yours before you go and buy a new one. Finally, be sure to get a new drive with the same connections on the back.

We are nearly there:) You may find that everything works OK once the CD drive is functional and you may not need to use the Gearsoftware program once the filters for iTunes have been replaced.

markmadras, Hello!!!! You are the best!!!! I went inside to check the cables and the Ribbon cable wasn't tight. Replugged it, put it back together and checked the BIOS and it was there!!!!!!!! Went into Device Manager and the MJ was listed under the CD Drive again but this time the CD Drive was also listed. I guess they can share a drive. I noticed inside the box there are a couple of Power plugs, I'm assuming for the other Drives if I put them in, but I noticed there was also a small plug attached to the power wires and not plugged into anything. Do you have any idea what it is for? I think I will take a Repair Class then I will know what to look for if I have a problem. I'm sure I will probably need your help again. You're Great!

    My pleasure.

If you have a close look you should see that the MJ and the CD drive have their own seperate drive letters.

The spare plugs inside your case are just spare plugs for attaching additional hardware, 2nd hard drive, 2nd CD drive, etc.
