Looking for software (preferably free, though not mandatory), but all the trial stuff won't combine two partitions. I have 31GB's of extra space I want to roll into my C:, as it's down to less than 5GB's from 98BG's total.

    Try GParted.

Its free & can do what you want.

Do you know if it works on Win 7 64 bit?
Looked on the site and didn't see it mentioned.

Mark, What about just a straight download ver?

Anyone know how stable it is? The site says they've had issues.

Chas, you have to download the program and then burn it to make a bootable CD, I believe the correct terminology is that it runs as a stand alone.

As rsinfo mentioned it maybe he can tell you more:) I've not used it myself I have Paragon but that was not free.

chas, any software that works with partition tables would have issues. Every software can not be tested for different configurations under different circumstances. The permutations/combinations are so great that its impossible.

GParted is stable, but before doing anything backup.

Think I've figured out how to do a backup 1st. Issue is the drive I plan to use for a backup currently has data I want, but my primary has no room for it - hence the need for repartitioning.
Kinda like robbing Peter to pay Paul. ;)

Copy your data somewhere else & NOT to the same disk even if you have the space. If anything goes wrong during the procedure, the whole data goes belly up.

Why not backup to removable media like DVD ?

    Way too many discs.
I have a 3rd drive I will backup to, then copy the needed files from HD #2, then clone to HD #2, then repartition primary.
    I'm out of breath!

    Catch your breath chas :D.

Don't even attempt it when you are not 100% fit.

Thx for the warning RS. I'll be sure and hit the gym prior to attempting all this.
