problem windows 7 wifi

    hi this is question from someone i now. he has a sony laptop with windows7 on it he has also got o2 dongle device installed on the laptop.
    the problem is that he has access to free wifi where he is the now the connection is showing full bars but he can not connect to the internet i only now a little but that is xp and have had no experence of windows 7.
    any help on this would be most greatful.

    Hi bracklapiper,
    does he have built-in wifi? the o2 dongle (usb wireless device?) I would assume would be a travel modem to connect to a GSM network, can he still connect via it?
    When he connects to the network does it ask for a sign-in? some free networks are not as they appear
