I do not have all the system stats available, the wife bought the computer while I was in Iraq and she's got no idea what she did with the documentation.

At power-on, I receive the Dell splash screen. In the top right hand corner, I have a notice of "F2 = Setup, F12 = Boot Menu." Below the logo in the center of the screen is "BIOS Revision 1.0.5." The computer than proceeds to lock up, and the keyboard is unresponsive. A single beep was made when the computer powered on. On the upper portion of the screen above the dell logo I get two lines of "blinky" lights. one starting about an inch off the side of the screen and going about halfway across, and the other starting about 4 inches off the edge and going just past half way. I've got three days before I redeploy and would really like to get this fixed so that we can talk online with skype. Thanks in advance!

    Hi Travis
start by trying to access setup/bios by tapping f2 after you power on, have look to see if the hdd is being detected, if it is functioning this far try resetting to default & reboot

    regards Jac

I am unable to select any option from the Dell Screen, I was tapping F2, F12, and F8 everytime I turned the computer back on. I got it to the boot screen and it froze again and just a few minutes ago it got to the boot screen and I was able to proceed from there. I'm concerned that if I turn it off it'll not come back on again. Thinking about doing a restore to factory settings, will this wipe any virus' that may have been picked up or will the stay on?

Restoring the drive to factory settings will reformat the drive and clear any virus, but I fear that this is a hardware problem rather than malware.

That's what I've been figuring, I disconnected and reconnected all the "junk" inside the computer as well as blowing it out with canned air. No joy. Wifey will have to take it in to get it looked at.

Turns out that it's the motherboard going bad, wife had to pay $80 to find that out and they said it would be around $360 to fix it. She's using my old laptop, so that's good for now. Will probably just buy a new computer when I get home. Of course I've now got three old ones, I could probably build a decent one for less than buying one.

Thanks for letting us know, sorry it couldn't have been a better outcome.

Since there is a resolution I will mark the thread Resolved.
