I am not sure if this is the right place to post but will try. I have an older pc that I am going to do a full install of vista. The DVD drive(which is needed for vista is not working) so I decided to do from an external/usb DVD. No to the bad part. The bios on the computer gives me an option to boot on usb fdd and usb zip. Does anyone know if either of these will work? If not is there a preboot software that will install the usb driver needed then let me complete the boot from the external DVD with vista in it?

ad found what I thought I needed on the net in PLOP but then found it does not have the driver for the DVD incorporated only woeks with a usb drive.

    Thanks in advance.:)

I roger that and have one in the mail but now am on a mission to find out how to do this.
My ideal would be to make a cd. The CD is working in the machine to do the preboot. But I am now determined to find out how to do it from the external DVD burner.
I am correct am I not that the usb ffd/zip won't do it? and I don't need the preboot?

    Thanks:D

The bios has no setting to tell it to look for an external CD/DVD it has usb fdd and usb zip. I was not sure if setting it to usb fdd would harm the dvd so had not tried it.
