There are settings you can use to have the email sent to you automatically. You can then decide if you want to install them or not. In fact, you have the choice to either check the download before it's downloaded or have it downloaded but not installed until you give the OK. So many choices.

I like to just be notified about an updates as I like to look through them and see what looks OK and what I don't like, or if I don't have time I just wait to see if anyone else starts to complain about the last updates! Then I wait for the update to the update for the last update that crashed my puter! I do like to keep all the updates that are harmless in a stored place on my server so if I have to rebuild someone’s PC, I can get it done much faster. I mean when was the last time a customer ever brought in there backup data for there PC when the HD crashed? I don't think I have Ever seen that? And I like to install updates on a test PC first and if it Blue Screens because it had a problem with a driver or some application?, I can uninstall that update file and fix the PC and wait for a fix for that "BAD" update! (o; But that's just me, Thanks..

As much as I'd like to just my system just accept any and all updates I just can't bring myself to let it. Has anyone very been burned by an update?

I know I have. Back in May I had an issue with a .NET Framework patch, KB951847, not installing. Then finding that patch appeared to also cause all the .NET Framework versions to become corrupt. After 2 months of following the Microsoft forums, working with MS PCSecurity groups (a comedy of errors in itself) the final "fix" was to reinstall the OS.

Lesson learned? Give those patches a day or so after they have been released and look around the various forums too gauge other users experiences.
