    No - runs both 32 bit & 64 bit.

You will have 2 Program Files folders ....

    Program Files

Program Files (x86) - this is the 32bit folder.

    Hi Pete.
does that mean I load the 64 and 32 bit programs into the appropriate directories? I assume the OS will just do it?
Also, does the Home Premium 64 version do this also?

The programs will load automatically to the appropriate directory - if both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of the program are in the install files generally both will load automatically.

This holds for all 64 bit versions of 7.

I went w/ Pro 64 because I was told Home Premium 64 did not support 32 bit XP compatible software, but Pro 64 had an XP mode. Am I confusing two issues here? Also because Pro supported more RAM.

    You were misinformed :)
Yes, but you have to download it - Virtual PC plus XP Mode which includes a free copy of XP Pro - get it here .....

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

Windows 7 is capable of running some very old software - I have 15 yr old software running fine on 7, but the occasional bit won't - if it ran on XP it will run in XP mode.

A comprehensive list of compatible software here ....

Windows 7 Application Compatibility List for IT Professionals

RAM limit for all versions of 32 bit 7 is 4 GB

For 64 bit versions - Home Premium 16 Gb, Pro and above 192 Gb

You were fortunate Pete. I use Nero 7 (for music editing) and it wouldn't work, so I'll have to set up XP mode.
Well, after reading the links it looks like I didn't need Pro, though I expect Nero will run in the XP mode, since it ran fine on my XP machine. So maybe that justifies Pro 64(?) :D

W/ XP mode do you have to go into a separate screen? I'm used to dragging music from the screen right into Nero. Not sure how this would work if it had to go to another screen. Any thoughts?

Nero 7 works fine in 7 x64 - I use it regularly and have installed it on a number of x64 computers.

XP mode runs in a Virtual machine contained in a Window on the desktop which may be full screened - screenshot ...

XP mode allows you to see all your hard drives and you can certainly drag 'n drop from a drive to XP mode, so I guess you would be able to do the same into Nero.

    OK, I'll scope it out.
Thx for the screenshot, Pete. :)

Oracle/Sun VirtualBox is also worth considering as an alternative if you want to run multiple OS including [but not limited to] Linux, Win XP, Win 2000, Win98.

Pete, I installed Nero 7 and it won't run. Won't even load.
That's in 7, w/out XP mode. Will have time to set it up tomorrow.

Valid original software disc - Nero 7 Ultra Ed I bought several yrs back. Not sure what to do w/ an update, since I can't load the disc (program). Once it's loaded then I could do the update. (???)

I think you will find that the update will run without a previous version of Nero 7 installed - that has been my experience loading Nero 7 to several Win 7 computers.

The only possible snag is that your serial no. is for Ultra, mine is for Premium and works.

I suggest you give it a go :)

All they offer is spending $60 to upgrade. No updates offered.

The only problem that I had with my [64] system was installing Adobe Creative Suite. It was not made to run in 64 and the folder name for 32 (Program Files (x86)) had characters that the install did not like so I created a new programs folder called "Program Folder.Special" thinking that I would come across this issue again and so far after 6 or 7 months... all is fine and I install/uninstall day in day out.

Do you see the screen below? Fill in your email address (example is ficticious) and the red bar across Download disappears. Hit it and download the update.

Thx Pete, that worked and strangely it never asked for my install disc.
The feature of Nero (the editor) that I use didn't show up though. It's the only thing in Nero I use. Any idea how I can get this back?

It is a complete install - update is a little misleading.

The Editor may be a function of the Ultra Edition whereas that is Premium. I only install the Burning Rom which is all I require of Nero, but if you go to All Programs > Nero > Nero Product setup > modify a list appears of the elements available. Which editor do you require?
