Did you try the company website that makes the modem? It would help if you gave the company that made the modem along with the model number of the modem.

    Hi,

This is a very old modem. I can't remember/find the maker. It is only marked on the case "56K Top Modem" made in Taiwan.

Win7 generic driver seems working on it. But this modem can't work on WinXP. The big ? is shown on Device Manager.

I am surprised that a generic modem is not picked up by XP - have you tried updating the driver through Device Manager, Windows Update - optional downloads?

    Hi Tony,

It is an old 56K external modem. I just found its box without manual.

    Spec in brief
    ...
    Data Compatibility: ITU-T V90(Rockwell K56flex). V34. V32. V22bis ....
Synchronous Access Mode: V80 ro Rockwell
    No chip set indicated

IIRC the modem came with a floppy containing driver for Win95 and Win98. Unfortunately I can't find it.

Top Universal is the trade name but no maker indicated
