Hello, I use a remote computer (XP PRO) with no one there most of the time. I can reach this remote computer with Remote Desktop. When I finish with Remote Desktop, the remote computer sits on the welcome screen, leaving things like Scype disabled. How can I change this behavior so the remote computer simply returns to its normal desktop state? Your help is really appreciated. Thank you in advance. Fred

    Hi Fred,

Sounds like you have a screensaver enabled.
If not, check the settings under Display Properties - Screensaver tab.
Untick the box that says " On resume, return to welcome screen.

If you have further problems with idle and can't reach your remote computer,
check your power settings.Don't let anything shut off after a given time.
    See below though >
Also check your settings in the BIOS - depending on the BIOS, there are settings for Wake on LAN
Maybe you're already using this method ,but here's an interesting article about it.

When you log into a computer remotely, it basically 'takes over' your current running session.

To end your session, instead of disconnecting you run the command line: tscon 0 /dest:console, which essentially pushes the current session back to the console - or makes it look like you never interrupted the local session.

Note: in Windows 7 the session ID = 1, so the command to use is tscon 1 /dest:console

For clarity: you run this command on the remote.

Aire, TSCON 0 /dest:console works perfectly. Problem resolved. Thank you very much. Fred
