I bought a Rock 1 Tig usb Hard drive from Ebay and it was damaged during a residential move. I need the informaiton I stored on the drive and I would like to know where I can get the drive repaired or replaced and the memory chip installed on a new replacement drive so I don't lose the information stored there. Any ideas and help?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

Can you get the drive out of its case and hook it up internally inside a pc?

I can easily cost well over $500.00 USD if you send it to professionsals.

    Rock external Drive

Hi Steve, no possibility to do what you suggest. It is a virtual drive, no mechanics an no way it could be installed in a PC. The memory chip is a big 1tig chip where all the data is stored. The usb port is what broke on the board.

I am thinking of inquiring to other users of the rock drive that are having different problems to see if they woudl sell me theirs and I could canabalize the parts. This drive is apparently unreliable at best.

    You've got me quite confused.

If it is holding normal data, you could take the hard disk drive out of the ROCK enclosure and put it into another external HDD enclosure. You might be right when you say the USB interface has failed, they sometimes do. If you can't pull the HDD out and put it into your computer, you can purchase an external enclosure to hold the HDD.

Be careful of the difference between a 2.5" and 3.5" drive.

I don't know of a 1TB "chip ". Nothing is held in a chip when the power is disconnected. You might be getting mixed up with "memory" storage.
