    Sounds like...

You may have too many programs that startup automatically ...that is why it takes soooo long to "Start Up "!

Check to see just what you do have on your Startup... click your "Start" button> click on "Run" button> type: msconfig> click "OK "> click on the "Startup" tab> un-check those you don't need to "Start Up "> click the "Apply" button

P.S. You don't need Word, Gtalk, Musicmatch & etc. to start until you want to use them, but do be careful about what you un-check!

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Dowload SIW and determine the make and model no of your hard drive. (Hardware > Storage Devices)

Then run the drive manufacturer's disk diagnostic software - preferably the DOS version from a bootable CD .....

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Toshiba

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Western Digital

Alternatively/in addition run your Dell diagnostics either from the computer, if installed or from a CD, if supplied.

If you are not sure how to do this the manual is here .....
