I am confused about the gigabit ethernet connections. Can you hook up both ethernet connections at the same time? Or is it possible to do so and get
    double the speed??

I believe you are talking about one of your computers having 2 1Gbps LAN ports. Yes you can hook up both depending on the capabilities of end contact point & the OS loaded on the computer.

    Nope.

The LAN is speed is much faster than your internet speed. Improving your LAN speed is not going to change anything.

If your internet connection requires 2 gigabit connections you ARE THE ISP!

Most internet connections are from 1 to 15 Megabits. There are 1024 Megabits in a Gigabit.
