    Win XP.

Booting causes chkdsk to run every bootup and always shows
"Unable to write to attribute 128 of file 9 ".

The system seems to run OK.

A search here and google didnt really show a solution (but lots of maybe's).
Is there a way to fix this or is the hard drive going bad?

    thanks,
    savagcl

    PeteC,

Should have mentioned in initial posting - i did the /r and
a /f prior to posting, my bad.

Will try the disk diagnostics and get back to windowsbbs.

What does the command fsutil dirty query c: show?

You can also run chkdsk /v. This could show you the file name that's corrupt.

Apparently, it fixed itself, by itself.

Strange - would still consider checking the drive - for your own peace of mind :)
