Hi, We have a server with Server 2003 and lots of XP PC's attached. The server is not set up as a domain (not sure what that means). It mainly holds files. Some of the PC's need to be logged on to the server after they are powered up and some don't.

These XP machines have server folders mapped as drives (not Z:)

Is there a setting I can change so they always remain connected and logged in ?

    Thanks.

    Okey Don,

So I guess what you are trying to say is that you don't want Client XP machines to ever shutdown.

If that's the case you need to configure 2 group policies.
    1. Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment > Shut down the system (add only those users you want to be able to shutdown the machine and reset all will be denied that previlage)

    2. Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Local Policies\Security Options > Shutdown: Allow system to be shut down without having to log on = disable

let me know if that's not the case.

Also, could you explain me what do you mean by "These XP machines have server folders mapped as drives (not Z drives)?????

    Regards

Hi Thanks for your reply. By 'Mapped" I mean that there are folders on the server that appear as drives T: and S: on the XP computers.

Your instructions look like the thing I need but in XP, I cannot figure out where to do this. Can you explain further ?

    Thanks again for your reply.
    Don
