    Hello, I had IE7 on Windows XP, and a couple of weeks ago it hasn't open after startup. I clicked on the icon, and nothing happens. It was suggested to me that IE7 might have errors and I should install IE8 instead. I did that, but again nothing happens when I click on the IE icon. I have run spyware scans, looked closely at Hijack This! files and eliminated potential bad files, and it still doesn't open. I performed an IE reset, and still no success. The wireless connection is working, so I do have connectivity. I cannot get into Safe Mode, and after running a MalwareBytes scan, the application closes out before I can see my list of 15 infections. I tried to run system restore, but it won't run. I frequently try to restart, but sometimes I only get my wallpaper with no icons at all on the page. Unfortunately, because I cannot get internet access, I am unable to download DDS and run a scan to post. What do you suggest I do to get IE8 to open and solve the problem of my applications not running? Thank you for your help!

    Download DDS on another computer, save to USB stick and transfer to Desktop of the infected computer and run.

    Transfer the logs to the USB stick and copy/paste the contents of each log into your next post here using the computer on which you are now posting.

    Download SafeBootKeyRepair.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.

    Double-click SafeBootKeyRepair.exe to run it. Follow any prompts that may appear then post the log it produces.

    No worries :).

    Are you able to boot into safe mode now?

    ========

    The download instructions specifically request that DDS be downloaded to your desktop. You are running it from a temporary folder.
    Please move it to the desktop as requested.

    ==

    Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE
    • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
    • Physically disconnect from the internet.
    • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
    • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply.
    • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

    Note:
    Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

    Run Combofix ONCE only!!
