You may well have a problem, but let’s just assume that chkdsk has got "˜stuck’.

    1. This may work, click the Windows Orb (Start) > All Programs > Accessories and right-click Command Prompt, then "˜Run as Administrator’, now type CHKNTFS /D (the capitals are for clarity only) and press Enter.

    2. Alternatively, go to the Windows Orb (Start), type regedit and press Enter. In the left pane navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager. In the right pane double-click BootExecute and change the value from something like "˜autocheck autochk * /p \??\C:’ to "˜autocheck autochk *’ (not the quotation marks).

Create a system restore point before changing the registry in case something goes wrong and you need to return the registry back to how it was.

Open the command prompt and run this command: fsutil dirty query C:
IF this command comes back and says the dirty bit is set, reboot and let Chkdsk complete. You might also want to run CHKDSK after a reboot to ensure your drive really is free from problems. IF your sure you have no problems, then go here to clear the "dirty bit" and to stop Chkdsk from running when you boot up your pc:
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-112220.php (this site discusses dirty bits and how to deal with the issues. It's for XP, but should also work on Windows 7.)
