A few months ago I posted this: http://www.windowsbbs.com/hardware/93626-hp-pavillion-laptop-monitor-dead.html

I've been using an external monitor and am finally getting around to revisiting this issue.

After opening the laptop with the manual and not being sure what exactly I was looking for, I contacted HP. They've advised me that the LCD needs to be replaced. Apparantly this model isn't part of a wide service extended problem they are offering for similiar issues. Just my luck.

How do I identify which replacement screen to purchase?

    Hi Catwmandu2,
Read your previous post as well as this post & you have forgotten to include the specs, Hp helps but model is a lot more helpful!
I like to search the model so I can give more info!? if I can!?

one way is to look up the replacement part on the hp site or if you feel comfortable using the repair manual if available? open the lcd cover & remove the lcd, you will find a sticker on the back of the display with a part number which you will be able to google for a suitable replacement for a reasonable price, a lot of Hp units aren't worth the cost of a new display or motherboard, so you will best be looking for a 2nd hand display or a faulty unit that you will/may be able to use for parts

    regards Jac

Thanks. Will try the HP website from another machine. Tried that prior to posting here but kept getting an error message. Have not tried yet this morning.

If I keep getting the message I will check the back of the display piece itself.

Actually, this may sound silly to you more experienced members but I wasn't sure which model to list . The machine says DV2000 on front which I know is the series, on tag says DV2500 and by service tag number it says dv2815nr. Then in system area it says dv2700. I wasn't sure if that would translate to a difference in part needs.

It may not be the screen but the inverter
also make sure all connections are tight
Lcd screens are often made by third parties - do cross reference checks on ebay
If you can buy a whole lid screen assembly rather than just the lcd it may make your install somewhat easier

    Catwmandu2,
If you can get on to the HP site using the laptop, go to support & drivers, click on the auto detection, see what it thinks the laptop is?
Did you buy the laptop new or 2nd hand, with that many models on one unit sounds like it may have be refurbished in some kind of way?
