I just installed XP onto a new hard drive, and for some reason that hd is drive G: instead of C:! Here are the details:

    IDE 0: 30G (master), CD-ROM (slave)
    IDE 1: 8 G (master), 3 G (slave)

The 8 and 3 G drives are already formatted as FAT32. When I got XP, I installed the 30 G, and during setup I formatted it as NTFS and put XP on it. However, for some reason the 8 G drive was set up as C: and D:, the 3 G is E:, and my new 30 G drive is G:! I tried using the drive manager in XP, but it says that it can't change a system drive letter.

Does anyone know how I can change my 30G drive into the C: drive? Am I going to have to re-install, or is there another way?

    Thanks in advance!

Try disconnecting the two drives on your Secondary IDE controller and run the install again. :)

    Install again...yuck.....

It is, however, an option. Maybe I'll just live with my system folder being "G: ", too.....

    Thanks!

When you say "I tried using the drive manager in XP, but it says that it can't change a system drive letter" are you referring to
the Computer Management program under Administrative Tools?
