I volunteer repair services at a retirement community computer club 4 days a week.

In the last 2 days, four PC's have shown up due to viruses.

All 4 had the same 5 viruses (sorry i dont have specific
    names),
    3 trojans,
    1 rogue
    and 1 hijack.

I suspect the same e-mail has a virus attached.

MBam found and removed all the viruses. Normal boot-up works good and control panel\system\device manager, all devices are good. Internet connection looks good, NIC looks good.

One problem common to all 4 systems, is that IE8 had been changed to use a proxie server. Changing this to use auto detect worked for 2 of the PC's but not the remaining 2.

Keep getting message that stated "IE is being reject by the server" or words to that effect.

I re-installed IE8 (on the vista system), problem still exist.

I cannot re-install IE8 on Windows7 because it says its already available. I cannot get to the Windows7 "reset" because it will start trying to find the problem before i can get to the "Tools" options.

Looking for suggestions on fixes or things to try.....

    Thanks,
    savagcl

    A) Before you try anything check the state of the data back up! if there is any on the systems back it up

    1) Prove what you have is networking and resolving DNS. By using Ping and tracert to some known web site ie google.co.uk or google .com

    2) IE being is rejected by server? A little more precision here which will help. You can screen dump (alt+printscreen with the message window active ) the message on site to MSPAint (paste) save file as and then copy it at your leisure and ie google it or parts of it or report it back here.
    3) If you think the IP stack has been damaged try netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt from an 'elevated' command prompt (vista and windows7) (right click the cmd shortcut and you should see it listed as run as administrator. You will have to reboot the PC after.
    4) Re-run Mbam, full scan in safe mode
    5) Use the repair disks to start the PC in repair mode and if possible select a much earlier date to restore to (Be warned malware and viruses will write back to restore points) These are downloadable as bootable iso images for the o/s required.

FixIt is pretty nifty tool. Used it myself and it works great.

    Oh Goody

Nice to see you fixed it

And nice to have been able to see Microsoft are attempting to fix some of the bugs as well...

Be careful what you ask for. You don't know to know who or what is listening.
