    Excel 97 Problem
I have a large workbook (about 7.5 MB) containing Numbers and Analyses. To extract some data I am interested in, I made a copy of the workbook and renamed/saved it. This went fine. Since there were links to other worksheets contained in this workbook, I copied and pasted special-values of the worksheet I was interested in. This too went fine, and I saved again. Then, I deleted all of the unwanted worksheets from this new workbook, leaving only one large worksheet, and saved again. But now, when I delete rows of unwanted data from this new worksheet and then try to save, I get a Page Fault and Stack Dump (caused by excel.exe) at the save command. The original workbook/worksheets give me no problems.

    Hi LDunhap
Any chance you can post that error message for us?

    Hi Larry
Do you think that this could be the cause?

Excel 97 Page Fault/Stack Dump re: Daizy

Thanks for your input. I am not saving in Excel 4 format (if I remember correctly, in Excel 4 you couldn't have a workbook, ie, multiple worksheets in one book), I have cleared all formulas by Selecting All, Copying All, Pasting All Special>Values, there are no books or sheets with the same names, and obviously none with formulas that reference same.

However, it is interesting, I guess, that the error involves MSO97.dll. Unless every Excel fault references the same dll!

I'll go back and try several things; 1) Make absolutely sure that I'm saving in Excel 97 format, 2) Leave the original workbook open while I delete rows in my copy, then save.

Again, thanks for trying! But, I don't think it's solved yet.

    Best, Larry

Excel 97 Page Fault re: Daizy

I suspected that it has to do with a large quantity of deleted material and its relationship to the undo function, just a guess!
    The guess was not correct!
If I delete just one row, the same Page Fault occurs.
Also, I tried deleting cells rather than rows; same problem.

    MSO97.dll Info:
    Revision 8.0.5425
    Dated June 01, 1998
    3.61 MB

    New Information 11/10/02:
Tried going to the original workbook, selecting the exact worksheet I'm interested in, deleted a bunch of rows, and it saved fine!
Something weird about the copied/renamed workbook!

Ah Larry....I've not had nearly enough coffee yet to get my lone synapse functioning. Sorry. :(

Are you saying in essence, that you can save as long as it's using the same name...but renaming the file, will give the error?

Escel 97 Page Fault on Save re: Daizy

    Have your coffee!

Nope, I can save as new name fine, or as same name fine.

But, if I delete even one row from the new/renamed file I get the Page Fault.

I originally tried to just save a copy of the sheet I'm interested in to a new book, but apparently it's so large that Excel just bogs down, and eventually (CTRL+ALT+DEL) says Excel is Not Responding.

Hence, I copy the original workbook, renamed it, and saved it with a new name. Then, I deleted all of the sheets in the new book, except the one I wanted, and saved it again.

Here is where the problem started; Now, if I delete rows (or even one row) from the new sheet, I get the page Fault.

I may go back and try another approach to saving a copy of the one sheet.

Sounds to me like something is corrupting the copied/renamed/saved book along the way.

As for not being able to just save one sheet to a new book, it sounds to me like some kind of overrun, somewhere, since it bogs down and stops responding.

    Best, Larry

    Excel 97 Page Fault

    More New Info 11/10/02:
Rebooted and stopped everything but explorer and systray from loading. 98% free resources.
Opened my original workbook, used EDIT>MOVE or COPY, tried copy worksheet of interest to NEW BOOK. Excel bogged down, CTRL+ALT+DEL said NOT RESPONDING. I aborted that.
Instead of copying & renaming the book as I had originally done, I opened the original book and saved it as a new name. I then opened that new book, selected all of the worksheet of interest, copied all/PASTED SPECIAL-VALUES.
I then deleted all other sheets, and saved again.
I was now able to delete all rows that I didn't need, and it again saved ok!
However, if I now open that new book and delete even one row, I get the same Page Fault!

    I'm Stumped!

    Excel 97 Page Fault

    I did as you suggested.

I didn't link to WinBBS, I've got it in text format, so it's just as easy to copy/paste the whole thing into the other BBS.

Guess we'll wait and see what comes around on the twelve-string!

    Thanks again,
    Larry
