I am having an issue with Firefox. After I do a clean install of Firefox, Firefox will run properly about six or seven times. After that, it crashes when I try to start it and the crash dialog box appears and sends the information to Mozilla. If I completely purge Firefox from the system and re-install, it works properly for six or seven times then crashes at start as it did before. I use Revo uninstaller to remove software.

What is funny about this is that it only occurs on one of my computers, a Dell Optiplex 320 with Celeron CPU, 1 GB of RAM, Windows XP SP3 GeForce 6800 video card. I have scanned for viruses and malware with multiple programs and no virus or malware has been found. All the drivers are up to date and there are no software or hardware conflicts.

On the same PC, I use Opera and it works flawlessly and quickly time after time. Also use IE8 which loads slowly and goes from page to page slowly. Also use Google Chrome. No problems with it.

    Thanks in advance

I do not know the answer but for someone who might, it would likely be helpful if you indicate which version of FF you are trying to install. It is never good for us to assume.

I feel the same way as scout321x. However, having had three different version of Firefox on my computer, at once, (with three different profiles), I tend to believe that there may be something wrong with the Profile. From what you say, I have no feelings if you have ever had version of Firefox, before, or you are using two versions with a single profile, at once, or what.
As you can see, from what I said, there no such thing as a single "Firefox ".

Thank you for responding. The version(s) of Firefox that I am having issues with is either 3.6.X from 3.63 forward and version 4.0 either beta version. I have found that the beta versions have hung in there a bit longer before failing.

    Guys,

Thanks for the input. I have tried your ideas to no avail. As I said in my post it occurs on a Dell Optiplex 320. On my other machines, no issues ever.

How many other machines, and what kind? I don't see why your Dell Optiplex 320, would act up. Overall, it is about the same as my ancient eMachines, except that you have more memory. Considering the fact that you tried several versions of Firefox, and I get no confirmation that a new profile was created for a certain version, I can't pass judgment.
In any event, stay away from v.4b2, and don't mix versions.

    Westside,

When I remove Firefox from the PC in question, I use Revo uninstaller and that removes everything including the profile. I have serched for the profile after uninstalling and it is gone.

The other PCs I have are AMD Athlon based (Athlon 64, Athlon XP and Athlon X2), and an AMD Turion based laptop. All of these PCs run Windows XP Home or Professional, are up to date with patches and are virus/malware free. These PCs are running the most current version of Firefox and the Athlon 64 is running 3.68 as well as Firefox 4b2. No problems with any of these.

I have run version 3.6.X alone on the Dell. It ran well for five or six times then crashed every time afterwards.

    Hello,

Goto Start | Right Click on My Computer | Manage the Select Event Viewer | Application | post the errors if it's referring to Firefox. It might point to a Dmp file after crash if possible post that Dmp file.

    Good Luck,
    Captain

    To Scout,

The PC in question has no virus infection nor does it have any malware infection. It is squeaky clean.

I have been to the Mozilla website and researched all possible infections/problems, sought them out and found none. The problem must lie elsewhere.

To the others, I will look for a dump file and post it if I find it.

    Thanks again.
