    hi
since N7 during installation didn't get my address book from N6.2, I had to either import it or copy and paste ( i don't remember, which i did)
now in my e-mail, when i click on "Address" i have 2 address books listed there: "Personal Address Book" (this one from N7 - empty fior now), and "pab" (my original address book, which i use, from N6.2)
is it any way to merge those two, or remove first one and put in second one instead?
where are those address books located in my computer? i tried to search for *.pab....nothing was found
    thanks
    Broni

    Hi broni,

I tried this once, and it worked, but be certain to back up your Profiles folder before doing any editing. Do this with Netscape closed. Not for the faint of heart. ;)

Your Address Book is abook.mab, and is located in your
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\username\*.slt

You can follow these steps using your 6.2 abook.mab file:

    Close Netscape

With Notepad, open your 6.2 abook.mab file that has the good addresses in it

The Notepad display will have approximately 25 lines of header information ending with this or a similar line: @$${1{@. Then a blank line.
The line after the blank line will start with <(1AF=45), or something similar.

Highlight and copy everything on that line (<(1AF=45)) through the end of the file.

In Notepad, click on "File Open ", then browse to your *.slt directory, and open the empty abook.mab file.

Right click, and select "Paste ". Now go to the end of the page (Ctrl+End) and press "Enter" one time to create a blank line. Save the file, then close Notepad.

    Restart Netscape

Open the Personal Address Book, and your 6.2 addresses should be there.

Now you can rename the 6.2 abook.mab file to Xabook.mab and disable it. If all goes well, then in a week or so, you can move the renamed abook.mab file from your *.slt folder. Save it as a backup.

If all else fails, then I would recommend using a third party Address Book Manager. Dawn is the recommended Manager for Netscape:

    Ramona, I have N/S 7

How would I save the address list in NS7? I followed your above instructions but there is no "username" folder. There is a file name: yye0k1e.slt.

    Not my name.

Is there an easy way to copy the saved emails in the Messenger to a zip drive and also the address list?

    Hi Sal_gal,

No user name? Would you mind posting your Profile folder path, i.e.:
C:\Windows\etc. I've not come across anyone not having a Profile/User name. Just had a thought: did you use "default" rather than a profile name?

To copy your Address Book and Mail to a Zip disk, I would recommend copying the entire Profile folder. Then you will have a backup of everything you need, including Bookmarks, All Mail, Custom Dictionary, Passwords, Cookies, etc.

    The Address Book is: abook.mab
Mail Inbox messages: Inbox (with no .msf extension)
