At some point during the past 8 days, something happened to the thumbnail previews from the taskbar. The previews no longer come up - just a menu of the open windows (ex. Outlook + e-mail # 1 + e-mail # 2, etc.)

I have un-installed what few items were added or changed on my system but no joy.

I tried gpedit.msc as suggested by another thread on this forum with no change to the current situation.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello howardparsons,

Keep in mind that an Areo Theme must be used for "thumbnail preview ". You could try changing the particular theme your using to another Areo type selection.

Have you tried windows 7 self repair for a transparency/areo issue? See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976170/en-us

By gpc tweak I assume you mean this edit:
    http://www.blogsdna.com/2056/how-to-enable-or-disable-taskbar-thumbnails-preview-in-windows-7.htm

    How about this method:
Check the following settings, in control panel:
Under system>Advanced system settings>Advanced tab>performance settings button and check if "Enable Aero peak" option is checked.

If it is checked try to disable it apply and okay way out , then do the whole thing over again only enable it.

NOTE shortcut winkey + pause keyboard key will open "system properties ", from there just click on the "advanced system settings" options

    No Joy

    Hello Ann,
    1. Windows 7 Self-Repair: Tried it. Closed everything I could think of. Got a message about mirror drivers. http://www.parsonage.net/aero1.png
    2. GPC Tweak: You are correct. That is what I tried
    3. Tried system>advancecd settings. etc. The final menu did not mention anything about Enabling Aero Peek. http://www.parsonage.net/aero3.png

It looks like the Mirror Drivers may be a cause but I have know idea what a Mirror Driver looks like or what applications might use it.

UPDATE: Googled "Mirror Drivers ". Found the following: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/3cbe6980-f4bf-4875-a2f9-8eb7420c02ef The person solved his/her own problem by looking in Control Panel>Device Manager>Display Adapter. I did the same & found a Mirror Driver for LogMeIn. Uninstalled it, rebooted and everything is back to normal. I've had LogMeIn on this PC for a couple of months but only used it one - approximately the same time I noticed this problem. I did Un-install LogMeIn but the driver was left behind apparently.

This whole thing would have been a minor annoyance except that there is a launch bar I use that sits a little above my task bar & blocks most of the menu thrown up when I hovered over a TaskBar item.

Anyway, thanx for pointing me in more-or-less the right direction.

    Hi again,

Your most welcome and thank you for the update and sharing the fix that worked for you.

Your lack of option to disable/re-enable "aero peek" via advanced settings indicates you weren't using aero themed settings, perhaps a classic or standard theme, but a problem with aero must have been unnoticed by yourself. Confirmed video problem, as indicated by your fix, may have been root for theme problem as well as thumbnail preview.

See: http://www.parsonage.net/aero3.png confirmed by my own comp. It is there if aero themed. It is not while using classic theme.

The above point is mute in any case but just verifying instructions for future users.

    Again thank you. ;)
