Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit the application will close immediately. String not recognized as a valid DateTime. I did not have any applications open at the of this message. I use 24hr clock. Its a Sony Vaio VPCEB26GM/BI Intel core i5 processor, 4GB memory, 500GB HDD. Bought at Best buy. I still have 14 days left to return it. Anyone ever heard of this error.

Failed to mention that I am running Windows Professional 7 64bit edition. Sony is sending me a recovery disk. The Sony tech. told me the disk should fix it. What do you think. Can I rely on the techs answer. I didn't get this part in my error:" There is a unknown word at index 11. "

You appreciate that a Recovery disk will almost certainly format your system and restore it to the as delivered state? Data back up essential.

Should fix the problem as you would be effectively starting over, but seems a bit drastic.

You must be running some application which requires .NET to function - may be difficult to ascertain which. Although you had no application open at the time there are many background processes running, some of which may be associated with an application which is not currently running on the desktop.

Difficult to know if the source is actually the app or .NET itself. You could consider removing all instances of .net through programs and features and reinstalling them, but that may well be a longshot.

The first Sony I bought on 07-13-10 was defective(could not install nor uninstall programs in Programs and Features). I exchanged that one for this one, but it shipped without a recovery partition. That is why I was sent the revovery disks. Received them and performed a full system recovery. For the next few days I'll open several programs on at once to see if the .NET error ooccurs. I'll keep you posted and if all is well I'll mark this thread Resolved.

Error message returned. Called Sony they said call Microsoft. Called MS they said they would try to fix it for $59.99. So I packed it up really nice and took it back to Best Buy. They said a geek squad team member would have to check it out to make sure it was broke. I quess they were trying wrangle the 20% restocking fee out of me. I got little loud and the geek agreed it was broken. So I'll look for something similar. Thanks PeteC for all of your Help

Downkoaded and installed .NET framework 4 Client Profile. Best Buy talked me into exchanging the sony for a new sony same model as listed in my first post. The message showed up again. This is the 3rd notebook with this problem. Hopefully .NET Framework 4 Client Profile will be the fix. I didnt download it on the 1st two computers.

I don't think this is a problem with the computer, rather with an application which you have installed which uses .NET.

Have you checked out Event Viewer for any detail on this error?

The only thing i've installed is HP wireless printer drivers. It's not that. they work on every other computer they're installed on. I did find one thing VzCdbSvc think it has something to do with Vaio Care. Its the only entry in the event veiwer that had anything referencing time.

Contacted Sony again. Problem was Elevated to Level 2. Level 2 the elvated to Software and development. Sony level 2 told me it has nothing to do with anything I've installed. I'm waiting to hear from Sony support. I'm not giving up on this notebook. It's sort of a vendetta now. There's nothing like fighting a losing battle with an inanimate object. It's only the battle, I can still win the war. I'll keep you posted and thanks again for your assistance.

Thanks for the update. If I was a betting man I would point the finger at Sony's own software :)
