First effort to set up the microphone.
Unable to use microphone due to excessive speaker noise when plugged in. Changed monitor that has integrated speakers to no avail. (under warranty) Could windows 7 be the culprit? Please advise. Thanks for your time.

Does turning the vol down on the microphone help?

Appreciate your reply Steve R. Jones.

Tried three different microphones. All failed to function and have no volume control.

HP is sending me another monitor? I shall not give hope up.

    Make it a great day,

I think what you need to do is mute the microphone in you volume control playback settings. If you have Realtek onboard sound, you do this by double clicking on the small orange or pink looking speaker icon in the notification area. Then click the microphone tab and where it says playback volume, click the little speaker icon to the right of the slider. This won't have any effect on using the mic for recording. Recording using the mic will still work as long as you don't mute the recording setting.

Creative cards have a setting for this too. However I don't have a Win7 setup with a Creative card so I can't be real specific on how to do it. There will be a setting for it though. Just have to right click the speaker icon and see what options are there. Explore a little bit. ;)

    Appreciate your reply Zander.

Have wins 7. Unaware of creative cards? Unable to locate a small orange speaker icon.
Muted playback volume icon to the right of the slider. Issue remains. High frequency noise soon as the microphone is plugged in?

External speakers are in the mail that shall resolve the issue. HP case manager stated, "that monitors with intergrated speakers contain a manufacture latent defect "?
