A while back I was screwing a round with the "God Mode" (»news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10423985-56.html) and did not read the warning about it causing Vista 64 bits to cash and it did. In recovering the PC I created a new profile and moved all the important stuff in to it. After all was well I deleted the offending profile. Last night I ran Belarc Advisor on the PC and the old Profile come up as locked. As this was the original Administrative profile, would it be possible to create a new Admin profile with the same name as the deleted profile? Or can I rename the current profile with the same name as the deleted profile. If not how come? I am the sole user of the PC so accessing old files with the same name will not be an issue.
    Thank you
To much time on my hands
    VV

You can't have a directory with exactly the same name as another. So although it might show the same name, the background directories will be named something else. For example, if the old user is Viet Vet and it is still under C:\Users, the new directory might be called Viet Vet(1). You might not notice a difference cosmetically, but I think you might notice it occasionally.

Check how the system reacts by logging into Safe Mode. If you can log in without problem, you might be able to completely delete the old user profile there. Vista often needs an "elevated administrator's" credentials to perform low level operations. I have often had to right-click on programs and select "Run as administrator ", even though I am an administrator.

If you look up "Fix a corrupted user profile" in Help and Support, it says you should be able to delete the old profile when you are finished with it.
