So I have a laptop with Win 7 64 bit. I bought it primarily for travel. I just took it on a trip and tried to connect to two different wireless networks. Both failed to connect to the internet. On one, where an ethernet connection was available, on the wire the computer connected immediately.

When I got home, I tried to connect via wireless to my own network, where my router is a Linksys WRT54GL. My Vista and XP machines connect wireless with this router just fine. I have a Roku box for Netflix and that connects just fine.

Since I have everything everything except the XP machine and the Roku box on ethernet, I had never tried to connect wireless with this laptop. It failed to connect, using all of the security data which I have written down. Of course, on ethernet it connects just fine.

I called Cisco, they had no answer.

Can anyone tell me, is the 64 bit the problem?

Or, can anyone give me a script of the right steps to connect to a wireless network?

    Thanks,

    >>RSM

    Mark this solved.

Win 7, at least 64 bit, will not accept WEP encryption. But, good or bad, that is what I used and that is what many people have used. I was not about to disrupt the settings for my whole system just to use this machine on trips

I had left from an old installation a Linksys USB wireless drive originally made for XP, where WEP is valid I inserted the drive into a USB port. It installed without even asking for the CD.

I am using it as I write this.

I am extremely happy with this result.
