Hello, I have 2 little problems...:

    (1) I had installed successfully Windows XP SP3. When it offered an update, the first one, and I ran it by placing the Office XP Professional Front Page CD which it asked for, BUT, it doesn't show this update under the Windows Updates in add/remove. Did I do something wrong? Windows Security icon isn't showing the offer to update anymore on my Taskbar ....

    (2) When I finished running the above update, my computer instantly froze. I rebooted and found on my Taskbar the "Outlook" icon instead of my "Outlook Express ". I was able to get OE back, but Is it okay to delete the "Outlook" icon from the Taskbar?

Thanks so much for any suggestions! :) Adela

    Hi Adela.

For your first problem it was probably an Update for Office XP that Windows asked you to install since it asked you to insert the Office XP CD. Since it was most likely an office update that was installed take a look in Add/Remove Programs under your office installation and look for the update there.

For your second problem, some office updates place the Microsoft Outlook shortcut on the desktop. You can delete the shortcut from your taskbar since you don't need it.

In order to see Microsoft updates on the Add/Remove panel you need to click on the "check box" near the top-right part of the panel.

Another way to see what SP level is installed in XP is to right-click on the "My Computer" icon then click on "Properties ". A window will open up that shows the Service Pack level of the OS.

Hello and thank you Evan! You are SO right! I found today's SP3 update right under Office XP! I was looking chronologically at the end... lol!

I just deleted the "Outlook ", and tried to drag a shortcut of the "Outlook Express" from "All Programs" to "Taskbar" and didn't do it, I then tried to drag it from the "start" menu but didn't do it either. Is there a way to put the OE shortcut in my Taskbar for convenience purposes?

Thanks so much again! :) Adela

Thanks very much scout! I resolved the 2 problems, but I appreciate your suggestions too as it's a good idea to try more than one way. :)

Again, thank you for your help! Adela

    No Problem Adela.

To add the Outlook Express shortcut to the Taskbar follow these steps:

    1. Right click the Taskbar and click properties.
    2. Under Taskbar appearance click the checkbox that says Show Quick Launch.
    3. Also uncheck the checkbox that says lock the taskbar.
    4. Click apply and ok to close the window.
    5. Drag and drop the Outlook Express shortcut in the Quick Launch bar in the Taskbar.
    6. Right click the Taskbar again and click properties and now click the checkbox that says lock the taskbar and then click ok to close the window.

Hello Evan and I'm sorry to bother again, but when I went to the Taskbar properties, the "Show Quick Launch" was already checked and the "Lock" was already unchecked.

I don't understand the #5 above. Where is the Outlook Express shortcut for me to drag? Because it isn't in the Taskbar...

I tried rt-click on the OE in 'All Programs" but nothing happened, no menu, no nothing...

I know it's getting complicated and I didn't want to take more time from you, so it's okay if you won't answer. :) Adela

I should have been more specific lol. Click Start< All Programs. Highlight the OE shortcut then left click and hold down the left mouse button. Then drag and drop the shortcut from the Start Menu into the Quick Launch bar.
