    Hi Guys,
I'm running Win XP Pro SP2 and have a Netgear Wireless Network Adapter (WG111v3) that is really starting to test me...
Upon boot I'm told by the Netgear Smart Wizard that I am "Connected to the Internet ", but it's not!! ...
I fix this by going Control Panel>Wireless Network Connections (Right Click) >Properties>Wireless Networks - then tick 'Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings' and success. All's fine until another reboot and the process is to be repeated.
I have gone through every part of the process I can think of and reinstalled the software and can't spot anything that I've missed.
I'm running out of hair to pull out, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Den

Hi DeeGee88, I have a laptop using a wireless card and it works through a Thompson ADSL2 capable router. When you open your Control Panel > do you have an icon WLAN 802.11g cardbus or equivalent showing adjacent to your Wireless Network Setup Icon? Neil.

Den, I've just gone into Control Panel > Network Connections > and on the screen it shows Local Area Connection and Wireless Network Connection. Below each of them I have New Connection Wizard and next to that Network Setup Wizard.
    What do you show? Neil.

OK. What do you show when you Right click on WNC?
You should show small screen : Disable
    View available wireless networks
    Status
    Repair (and others below)
Have a look in Status and see what it tells you about connection etc.
If you are not connected - try Repair. Neil.

after disabling there's no indication of viewing available networks but 're-enable' reconnects to the net.

The problem is that the device connects to the router but no internet connection.

    Den, I found this link:http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30
Is this the procedure you went through when you installed it? I'm wondering whether it would pay to re-install.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I on this problem will look in. Neil.

Actually Neil, I have put up with this prob for about 12 months. On Friday I got a rootkit that left me no alternative but to reformat drive; I thought this prob might right itself with format and driver reload, but no, so now I'm looking for answers. Anyway thanks for your help, maybe some other kind soul will come to my rescue...

    Regards,
    Den

Hi Den, another thing to check is your router setup OK?
Have you deleted any programs recently? Cheers Neil.

Hi Den, Neil; I hope I can help.

I'm having trouble with my wireless too. A kind person informed me in the thread i started to look up and download Xirrus Wi-Fi inspector. That person is named Retirednow. I found the program at the official site located here.

    http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php

I would also like to ask you to check your firewall settings for your wireless connection. I have a similiar problem with my xfire after it updates itself and the internet. I log onto my pc, and after the update, I make sure that I am connected to the internet still; though my xfire won't connect. I then go into my firewall settings and look under the program for xfire. If the program is in the default setting of "ask ", then I set it to automatically be "o.k." with the program. I use Zone Alarm and Avast Anti-virus on my pc's. They are both good, and free. If you use Zone Alarm, please look under the Programs tab, under Program Control, for the settings you have your wireless set up as.

And if it may help, the tests you can do via xirrus might help clear where the problem lies.

Lastly, I would also suggest you to try a ping test from dos. However, if you don't know how to do such a test, then please do the above meantioned items before-hand. Its rather late right now, and I for the life of me I can not remember the proper steps to take in order to ping from dos mode.

    Hi Neil & FK,
sorry to take so much time getting back but I totally lost all internet connection. Bottom line is I finally bit the bullet and purchased a D-Link Network Card and it seems to be working fine. Maybe there is a software glich between XP and the Netgear... dunno...
    Anyway thanks for your help.

    Regards,
    Den
