Limited users cannot use the scanner even after I make the folder the scanner is installed to a shared folder. The printer works fine but it just freaks when a limited user tries to scan and gives me a error report thingy. Whats up with that? I'm finding this to be an irritation.

Have you right clicked on the scanner and selected properties then click on share. I don't know for sure just a thought.

    Can you network a scanner?

Maybe I'm way off base here, but look at it this way ... you're out-putting to your printer, and that can be done from any properly networked computer.

On the other hand, you're in-putting from the scanner, and I don't know if you can do that with a computer other than the one the scanner is connected to.

I say that only because my SCSI scanner doesn't appear in Windows Explorer or in Device Manager, as my USB CompactFlash card reader does; it's accessible only from within the various graphics programs on the connected computer and, even with the scanner software installed, other computers on my network aren't aware of the scanner's presence.

If I'm wrong about this, I'd certainly like to know and, if so, I'd like to learn how to network my scanner. Anyone?

I have a Lexmark X73. Connected to and being shared from the wife's PC. Printing, scanning, copying, all available from my PC.

So it evidently is possible but the mfgr will have to have written drivers that allow it.

You're right, Newt. I did a little more research on Epson's website, and discovered that only a few of their high-end scanners are networkable. Unfortunately, my Perfection 1200S isn't one of them, as no network drivers are available for it.

It's not really a biggie, as my three computers are within a few feet of each other, and I'm the only user. In my case it's usually "I wonder if I can ", rather than "I really need to ".

Newt then perhaps you can test this for me cuz that's what I have purchased is the X73. I'm only using one PC tho and have set up 4 users with 2 of them limited users if you set up a limited user on that pc will it let the limited user scan?
I will go to lexmark and look around.

Did you use the drivers that come with it or did u use the ones off the website?

That was a deal for 99bucks huh and got a fax too.
