    Hello, I'm FK.

My wireless connection is acting up and I do not know how to fix it.

I am having the problem with the signal for the wireless that is going to my desktop pc. I have a laptop, and when I connect to the wireless with the laptop, the connection uplink and downlink are great. However, when I connect to the wireless with my desktop, the uplink (sent) packets, are one tenth of what the downlink (recieved) packets are.

I've tried resenting the router, and the modem, and unplugging the connection of the wireless from my desktop pc, and waiting a while before re-establishing a connection. Sadely, this did not work.

I would like to know what I can do in order to fix this problem I am currently dealing with.

The wireless signal for the connection to my desktop pc has worked fine in the past. Therefore, I do not know what the problem may be.

Thank you all in advance for helping me resolve this issue. I look forward to hearing positive feedback from any of you who decide to reply to this thread.

    Sincerely,

    FK

Change the channel used by the access point to 1 or 11.

k, I changed it from channel 6 to channel 1. I'll check back later if the connection is better now. I did a connection test at www.testmy.net and www.speedtest.net. the results were at testmy.net were Download :: 88 Kbps or 0.09 Mbps (11 kB/s)
    Upload :: 65 Kbps or 0.1 Mbps (8 kB/s)

and the results from the test done at speedtest.net were download speed: mp3 file 21 seconds, video clips 2 minutes, movie 56 minutes. Upload speed was email attachment 5 seconds, photo gallery 39 seconds, video clips 3 minutes. Upload total result was 1.67 mps, and download was 1.92 mps.

After the channel change, I hope the connect is better. I will check back later on today.

Download Xirrus Wi-Fi inspector and install it. Run it and paste the results back here.

o.k, the wireless connection is not any better than before. In fact, the strength is less now, that I have the wireless set up to be on channel 1 than channel 6. In the past, channel 6 gave the most strength. I am currently downloading that xirrus wireless connection scan program. I'll post the results as soon as I have them. After this problem, I'm gonna set the channel back to the most optimal channel for my wireless router, channel 6. But for now, I'm just gonna leave it as is. Even though the connection does have a sort of "brain fart" often, resulting in a loss of connection, or a file stops downloading, just ot name a few examples.

After posting this information, what can I do to make my wireless connection work efficiently now? The main problem is that the sent packets are 1/10th of what the recieved packets are. This is a recent problem, and the wireless has not shown this problem before.

I hate to ask, but do I have to uninstall the connection wizard on my desktop for the wireless connection? The reason I ask this is because most of the time, uninstalling a program is the solution that is given. I would like to know if I do not have to do that step, and just check/fix one aspect that is the cause of the problem.

I uninstalled the wizard for my wireless on my desktop pc. I then reinstalled it only after making sure that all files for the program are deleted. I then went through the installation process, and installed the wireless program. At first, the wireless connection seemed in balance with the sent and received packets. Though, I seem to be a bit skeptical about it now. As I am typing this "update" on my problem with my wireless connection, the sent is at 2,114,960, and the received is at 5,724,361. This is not as bad as it was before, where it would be for example, 8,xxx,xxx sent, compared to 72,xxx,xxx received.

I then did a test in that xirrus wifi inspector program. The results for each of the three tests are as follows.

    speed test

    ping test

    and connection test

    Connection Test Results

Test Name Address Results Avg. Latency
    DNS Server Ping 192.168.1.1 5 of 5 78 msec
    Gateway Ping 192.168.1.1 5 of 5 6 msec
    DNS lookup www.google.com Success NA
Internet IP Ping 74.125.67.105 NA NA

The connection is still showing more received compared to sent though, so, I am not fully convinced that uninstalling and re-installing fixed this issue. The connection is now at 3,xxx,xxx for sent, and 8,xxx,xxx received. So, at this point, with this information, I would like to know the following.

How do I get my wireless connection to be balanced?

Thank you all in your help in this matter, and I look forward to further assistance.

this is the update like I referred to before.

The problem with my wireless is still present. The amount of received packets is greater than the amount of sent packets. I have also noticed another issue related that I should bring up. When I left click on the icon on the taskbar that indicates my connection, and view it, I notice something strange. The connection icons show themselfs in grey (no activity). This would be nothing to be concerned with, however, this occures with the loss of connection I get with a video game, or with playing a video online. After sometime, the connection just stops, and does not continue. I have to refresh the page, and thus ultimately re-establish the connection request from the program itself; whether that be a video, audio file (itunes) or whatever. I'm not sure why this occures, but I assume it has some relation towards the issue of the great difference in sent/received packets.

I hope this helps, and does not lead to any confusion. I only suspect that the repetitive idle connection and large difference in sent and received packets, are one in the same.

If this is not true, then I apoligize. I just thought that this information was worth being addressed.

Hi i am not a techy , but all the broadband connections we have around here have more down load speed than the upload speed, ie. 256 down and 64 up etc, mine is 1500 down and 256 up.
That is how they sell the packages in SA.
    Cheers Des.

I would like to thank the several new people who have decided to participate in assisting me with this matter.

However, I must address an important thing to point out. The problem with the connection is still present. A month ago, I was able to have a smooth connection, and not have loss of connection. This is true with whether it is a video download, playing a video game, or even playing an audio connection via itunes. Obviously, I know that there is a difference in sent and received. I also know that that when there is a large difference, that there is a problem. I also know that when I open up a video on the net, say from youtube, the video should not stop downloading particially, or half way, through.

I do have a problem with my wireless connection currently. I wish to fix the problem with the wireless connection.

Though, I must say, after uninstalling the program for the wireless on my desktop, and then re-installing it, and still having the same problem; I think the problem may lie with the settings on the router itself. However, I will withhold any action on my part, and wait for instruction on what to do. With regards to the information I have provided since the last information was given.

    Resolved network issue.

I got tired of waiting, so I tried to trouble shoot the network wireless problem I. As of last time I replied to this, I concluded that the problem was not from either of my access points, the desktop, or the laptop, but it was the router itself. I then logged onto the pc that was connected directly to the modem and router. I then logged into the router. I looked at the video that I posted recently to another network issue for another person's problem, and got the idea to ping, "ipconfig," in command prompt, from all three pc's, the laptop, and the two desktops. I thought of trying to make the connection to my desktop pc, which is not directly connected to the modem, to be set to static, instead of dynamic. I went into the settings for the router, and under the appropriate category, I selected the static ip address setting. I set the settings to match the default gateway of my desktop pc that is connected through the access point. After making sure I set up the right connection, and applied the settings, I checked the connection. The connection did not work, and the default gateways were changed to something like 10.0.0.1 or close to that, on all pc. I then, while the pc was still turned on, reset the router and modem simultaneously. I did the router first, making sure to hold down the reset button for ten seconds. I then did the same thing to the modem. After a minute or so, of waiting for both devices to reboot, I check to see if there was a connection on the desktop, the router and modem were connected. There was a connection. I then checked to see if there was a connection on the desktop and laptop pc, there was not a connection. I then went into the settings of the router, and looked up the basic wireless settings. All of the settings have been changed. What ever was causing the problem before is gone now. So, with the new name, new complex password (automatically set), I inputted the wireless connection password onto my laptop, and established on the router device pc side of my household, that my other desktop, was to be recognized initially, after establishing the connection, within the settings of the router. After which, all connections work great now, even before I started to have this problem; the connection now is better than before. Now, when I turn on my desktop, there is a guarantee that the connection will be there. This is not as it was before, which when I turned on my pc, the access point may or may not, have connected. Now, the connection is better.

As far as the issue of mine is concerned, it is RESOLVED.

Thank you all whom has replied to this in regards to trying to help me.

If an admin sees this, please lock this thread. I do not need any more help in this matter.

If anyone would like to add any feedback to this problem, or would like to ask a question, please post a reply, or send me a private message.

Again, thank you all for your time.

    Sincerely,

    FK.
