Hi! I have Windows XP on my Alveratec All in One. We were getting a lot of spam and adware so we ran Anti-Malware and that didn't work so we ran Combofix. Everything seemed to be working better and now our keyboard won't work. I have even tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall and tried using another keyboard and still no luck. Help!

Hi! Yes and still nothing. I was even told by someone on another site to go in and find out the registry info and it said "kbdclass" and I posted that back to them, but never heard back on the next step. I am totally lost!

Can you start in Safe Mode? if so run System Restore to a point before you ran Combofix which should never be run unless requested and then only under the guidance of a Malware Analyst.

Hi! Can you refresh my memory on running in safe mode? I have done a restore back to before I ran Combofix and the keyboard still wouldn't work. My mouse is still working. Does that make a difference in what might be the problem?

Before windows starts loading you press F8 to go into safe mode..Course - this may be a problem if your keyboad doesn't work...

Is the keyboard a USB or PS2 type? If USB - does the machine have the round/green PS2 port for the other type of keyboard.

Hi, Have you checked in Device Manager? Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > Expand Keyboards - is anything shown? Or Start > Control Panel > Keyboard > Keyboard Properties Pane > Hardware > anything shown?
    Device Status: ???
    Try Troubleshoot.
Let's know what you see. Neil.

Hi! I sent to My Computer and looked through like you said. Under the keyboard list there are two. One has a yellow exclamation mark next to it that says HID Keyboard Device. The second one said Standard 101/102 Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard. I don't know if it helps or not, but when I turn the computer on there is a message saying it can't find hgwcv.dll module can't be found.
