I'm not sure if this is a networking issue or a Vista issue. I remember making a topic a while ago about a similar issue that was "resolved" by reformatting. Since I am trying to avoid that, I was hoping that someone might have some ideas.

I've been trying to set up this computer to work through a wireless router. I've attempted to at least DETECT wireless networks with two USB networking devices (one Linksys and one Hawkings) and a new NiC (Netgear). In all three cases, device manager lists the device as working properly. However, when I attempted to connect to a network, nothing is ever detected. All the drivers are up to date as well.

I've verified that the router is working properly through a different PC. I'm almost positive that this is an OS issue as I have nothing but problems when trying to get this machine onto the internet.

    ipconfig all gives me this:

I also cannot seem to get the wireless connection to stay enabled in "Network Connections ". I click to enable the device, and it says that it is enabled but immediately becomes disabled once the window closes.

Does anyone here know how Vista works with wireless connections? I have the suspicion that the OS isn't properly communicating with the wireless device, but I don't know enough about Vista's OS to know HOW it communicates any differently than say, XP. As always, ANY help is appreciated! Thanks!

My first thought is Malware/Spyware or a virus.

Have you compared settings in the computer that works and the one you are setting up?
Are they both Vista OS? Cheers Neil.

As far as I can tell, I don't have anything. Obviously, scanners aren't perfect, but nothing is being detected, and I am still able to get onto the internet via ethernet.

No, the working computer is XP. The XP can detect at least 5 networks around the area, so that more than likely would eliminate a router problem.

I took a look at the links, but neither of them seem to apply. My issue that I cannot even detect networks. According to the device manager, the adapter is installed and working properly. However, the network connections in the control panel lists the adapter as being disabled.

Download Xirrus Wi-Fi inspector and install it, run it and paste the results back here. Also, open a command prompt and type the following without the quotes and paste all those results back here, "ipconfig /all ".
