How do you change the HTML editor from notepad to front page ?
I used to have this option before I went to IE6. I believe it was under the Edit section.

In Internet Explorer click on tools\internet options and then click on the programs tab. You should be able to change it there.

No I have tried that and it doesn't work. It contains notepad and I can't change it. When I go there the window is blue.If I click on the tab it says "notepad" and I can't write anything into that window. I know it can be done because I had frontpage in there before I got the new IE6.

Try this. Open frontpage and click on tools and then options. On the general tab check to see that the line that says "check if frontpage is the default editor for pages" has a checkmark in front of it. If not, check it and then close frontpage. Open frontpage again and you should prompted as to whether or not you want frontpage to be the default editor. Choose yes, close frontpage and then try it in IE. If it still doesn't work try rebooting. Don't think that should be necessary however. Hope this works for you.

I tried your suggestion but I have Frontpage Express and it the tools tab in only has options for Fonts. This is very strange because I know it can be done. Don't know why ei^ should be different than EI 5
Thanks for your help. If you have any other suggestions i will be glad to try them.

I've found the old stand-by winfiles to be my most reliable tool for file associations.

It's a relic of windows 3.1 and is in all the windows 95's, 98's and ME. It gives you an interface to the old "file manager" where you can see exactly what each file association is and change them as you choose.

From "Start" go to "Run" ..... Type in "Winfiles ". This will bring up the "File Manager ", which looks like windows explorer.

From the "File" pull-down in the upper left, go to "associate ". From there, type in "HTML" and you will see what program is currently associated with these type of files, (which you say is notepad, the program you do not want).

If you know where the executable or ".exe" file is for Frontpage Express, you can simply type the path in. You can also scroll down the list to find it. If not, use "browse" to find the .exe for Frontpage Express and associate it to your HTML files.

Many programs "steal" all the file associations they can get. In this case, Frontpage Express didn't grab the association you wanted for HTML and you should be able to manually get it done this way.

    Good Luck:) :)

You could try the script on this page. It's the first one in the list.

roehrle, I'm glad you caught my error and were able to make the adjustments you were trying to achieve.

In my haste, I went from memory and typed in Winfile with the additional "s " . Sorry for the error.

Since I can't modify my earlier post due to time limits, I'll make the correction here, in this post.

As SHOULD have been stated earlier, Go from Start to run and type in WINFILE .........

BTW, I still stand by my earlier statement that this has always been my best way to keep track of file asociations by showing and modifying associations even when the regular windows explorer won't let you make the changes.

Thanks for posting back and letting us know how things worked out.

    Bob
