    Hi everyone,

Can anybody suggest a network-enabled multifunction printer that is most economical to run?

I am looking for ones that have an ADF with Fax, Network, Duplex printing capability. It would also be nice to be able to print directly onto CD/DVD but this is not important. I am considering the following models:

    - Hewlett Packard (HP) Officejet 6500 Wireless Multifunction

    - Hewlett Packard (HP) Officejet Pro 8500 Multifunction

    - Canon PIXMA MX870 Multifunction.

If you have any experience with any one of them please share it. Your comments are greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the WindowsBBS community forums.

If you do a lot of printing consider getting a laser printer. It will be a higher initial outlay, but their purpose is for economical printing.

Can you network to a monochrome multifunction laser printer and have a separate inkjet for colour prints (maybe shared off one computer)? That will make the users consider printing in colour only when they need to.

If you don't want to consider a laser printer, find the ink cartridge's specifications and look at the number of pages it produces, divide that into the prices you can find for purchasing them and get a cost/page figure and compare them. You might find cost/page (running costs) if you put the printer's model number and the term "review" into a websearch.

People see the relatively low cost of buying a new printer, but they don't consider the ongoing running costs. From what I see, you buy a new inkjet printer for less than the cost of a set of cartridges. It is replacing the cartridges that is where the expense is incurred.

    Matt
