...and that's my question. I usually disable all services that merely exist for the purpose of looking for an update for a particular application. Then, there are those pesky little fast-start processes where the application is loaded halfway into memory for better app execution performance. Not a good use of resources IMO. They're not needed anyway because my SSD launches any program virtually instantaneously. Photoshop and Office suite apps take about one second to load.

What about the RPC services? And BranchCache? What are some other non-essential services that I can disable without any repercussions as far as the operation of the OS is concerned? Also, maybe we can share some registry tweaks and/or browser mods?

    Happy Tuesday everyone. :)

It is my opinion that this is a totally futile exercise!

Hi Crunchdude. If you haven't done so already take a look at Black Vipers Services Guide. It will help you figure out what services in Windows 7 you can safely disable.

Since everyone uses their computer for different purposes make sure that you are aware of what services that you are disabling so you can set the services back to their default state in case something goes wrong.

For Windows XP, adjusting Services has huge payoffs in performance. For Windows 7, I have not noticed ant real performance increases or decreases by adjusting Services, however, I have disabled some Services that I will never need nor want, such as BitLocker, Media Center Extender, Wifi, etc., as well as Remote Registry and any Services related to dialup networking (Remote xyz)..
