When I start up my computer, it automatically goes to my user account. I have three other user accounts set up for each of my children, however, they don't often use these accounts because of the current settings allowing them to just go to mine. Each of the children's accounts have also been set up in Norton Safety Minder to take advantage of parental controls. . Can someone please explain to me how to set up the computer settings to simply go to the "User account" screen. By the way, if I log out it will go to this screen. Also, my account is password protected after I log out and go back in.

    Thanks

It should be to go to User Accounts -> Change the way users log on or off, then put a check in the box for Use the Welcome screen.

If that is already set or doesn't work, make a password for your account, check that you get the Welcome screen, then you can reset your password back to blank/no password and see if it works then.

You know it's better to set a password, especially for an administrator's account. I expect to trust your kids, I trust mine to have administrator accounts, they have installed some dodgy programs in the past, but I pointed it out to them and they now use their computers like pros. What I might not trust are guests using the computer. A lot of people say "we had so-and-so come and stay with us, now Windows doesn't work ". I am often asked to set up standard user accounts for visitors.

Matt, his account already has a password set. The account is set to automatically login. The easy way to change that: from the Run command on the Start menu run control userpasswords2 and check the box Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.
