Internet Explorer 8 stopped working and needs to close

    Recently purchased an HP machine running Windows 7 64-bit with IE8. When accessing web sited it would stop working and close IE and reload. Ran a tool from MS to check add-ons found one from HP and corrected. Turned off all power configs to be all on and checked it with wireless adapter and wired both with the same results. It is not website specific as it has occurred on multiple sites. Any help ideas roadmap would be great. Thanks

    When you went down the route of checking add-ons did you start IE in no add-ons mode? Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools - IE (no add-ons)

    If that resolves the issue start IE normally and go to Tools (on the tab bar) and disable all add-ons and test. Then re-enable each add-on in turn until the culprit is found.

    If no joy from that try a Reset of IE - Tools > Internet Options > Advanced - Reset.

    Do you have any third party tool bars installed?
    Are you indicating that IE closes and reopens of it's own volition?

    Alternatively, download Firefox 3.6.6 or Chrome 5.0, either of which performs significantly better than IE8.

    Microsoft seems to be taking the quality of its browser seriously again with the forthcoming IE9.
