csnudelman: I have both Quick View and WinZip, and I just use WinZip to view my Zip files. That works fine for me. Is there some reason you don't want to do that?

What happens when you try? Is Quick View associated with ZIP files? When you double-click on a ZIP file are you prompted to specifiy a program with which to open a file? If so, have you tried selecting Quick View from the list?

Until this is resolved, you might wish to use ICEOWS as a temporary workaround (it's free, offers excellent compression and enables you to irritate people by sending them little known ICE files :D ).

The free version...which is trialware that never expires...can be downloaded from Tucows and Download.com and probably several other places.

You can get the free version right from the maker's site:

    http://www.winzip.com/

It's listed there an an Evaluation Version but it is fully functional. I used it so long that I had trouble sleeping so I sent them the money they so richly deserve for such great software. With the Registration number entered you get rid of the nag screen.

Yes Brett, and quite rightly so. I think those veiled threats are what was keeping me awake at night. ;) Registering the software was cheaper than Nyquil.

I'm appalled, Zephyr, that you allowed yourself to be tempted in this way. Such behaviour could easily lead one to other indiscretions such as attempting to cheat on one's income taxes. Fie and shame! :D

I have Windows XP Pro, is there some way to set Quick View as the default program to open files (including WinZip)?

"Evaluation License "? You mean somebody actually read that? Hmmm....I never noticed it. Perhaps my brain no longer acknowledges that screen when I install software. ;)

On the assumption that you want to open .zip files with quick view but not the winzip exe file -

Open windows explorer. Locate a zip file (any zip file) and highlight it. Hold down the shift key and right-click the file. Go to "Open With" and choose quick view. It may be in the list or you may have to browse for it. Check the box that says "always .... ".

Sad to say, there's no quikview.exe available in XP Home. It has been discontinued. I can't be sure about XP Pro.

I'll have to look at Jasc Quick View Plus 7 as an option.
