I was trying to copy a folder in my pen drive Flash disk 2.0..... It was happening very slowly... I then cancelled the copying... It was taking its own sweet time for cancelling so kept the laptop on stand by mode and went away.. When i came back, the laptop's display went off --- donno why :(... So had to shut it down and the pen drive was plugged in.. Wen i restarted it and tried to check if there was anything in the PD, it prompted me to format the disk.. So I did but it gave me pop up saying cannot format the disk --- It has become read only... Please help me solve this problem... :)

    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the WindowsBBS community.

First, could the drive have a software program that loads to "run" the drive? I have a Sandisk drive that runs a program called S3. I found the program was problematic so I uninstalled it. When you connect the drive, does it (did it) start with a program or have it's own folders or did you just make your own or copy files/folders to it?

What is the brand? What model and size?

Try resetting the attributes for the drive
You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Some drives might have a switch on them to make it read-only. Check for a switch (it might be quite small).

    Matt
