If you are trying to direct folks to "iTunes for Windows XP: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters " then your above link is corrupt. Here is a corrected link: Click Here

And since you are doing a regedit in XP this might be more appropriate in the XP forum.

    Hi Jan,

    Are you here?

Directions are just trying to get you backup this hkey before you edit it. The result will be a *.reg that can be merged backin to the registry should the need arise. This is a caution precaution, safety net.

Up to and through step #9 should have your
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} highlighted. Just rightclick on this hkey {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and select "export ". From popup, there will be two option buttons in the lower left. One will be called "selected branch ". Make sure it is ticked. Chose to name this reg file something that makes sense to you, chose save location. Bam! Your done with step #10. Proceed to follow additional directions as given by link.

Please note* step 11 does state that if you don't see lower filters hkey proceed to next step which would be 12.

If this upperfilters value key isn't there, let's try and put it there. You can always delete this or merge the exported hkey you've made previously, in step #10.

Rightclick in right pane and select new string value
    name it UpperFilters
    rightclick it and select modify
on type in line type or copy paste bolded text GEARAspiWDM
    close regedit
    reboot

Follow additional directions on link used.

Following on from Ann's advice, for others reading the subject...

Don't play in the registry. It's a bad place to learn from mistakes ;)

Sorry all and thank you Wildfire for the reminder,

Of course editing the registry is not for beginners, nor the queasy. Precaution should always be taken to back up the registry before any editing is done.
    *restore points
    *exporting entire registry
    *exporting individual hkeys

Three layers of protection can't hurt. I've been in and edited the registry a gazillion times and now tend to get a bit cavalier when advising others. Shame on me but in my defense, I only relax/lax on non system critical edits. Had this been a high risk system critical edit, I would have stressed in bold red the importance of backup.

Bottom Line: always use caution and precaution. Know what the effects of your editing will be or can be. Know how to reverse it. Know all of this prior to or before editing.

well i did it,how you said goddez1 and it didnt make bit of difference,so i went back and imported the export. i removed itunes(and Quicktime) and audible download manager and reinstalled everything. and still get the same error. do not understand it.
all i want to do is burn my books without it cancelling after finishing the burn. the cancelling started giving error #4450 then a #4480 and then the itune registy settings are missing and i have uninstalled itunes probably about 4 or 5 times, audible repaired it twice and there doesnt seem to be any way that i can get
it working. any ideas as the why of it all? what is keeping all those new itunes from having what i need to burn cds? come to think of it, i dont even think i can burn music cds. i dont understand.

oh btw tried to burn on wmp11 and guess what? i cant and this is music not audio books. well if i had known that i would have asked for something else for christmas instead of the 100 pack of blank cds. they are blank cd coasters now and they are not the best best coasters, they all have a quarter-sized hole right in the middle.

    so the next question is
will it hurt my computer to stay on overnight? since i can not burn im moving computer into the bedroom,so i can listen to my bedtime stories.

i just hope my car doesnt do like itunes, its broke too.
