Resolved Windows Explorer hangs

    Recently I encountered following problem on my Windows 7 Workstation.

    Everytime when I right click on a folder (any folder) to see the properties of that folder Windows Explorer hangs. I can get out of it by restarting the explorer.
    The strange thing is that if I ask the properties of a file by right clicking that file next time right clicking on a folder works without a glitch.

    Can anyone explain the phenomenon and suggest a solution?

    system configuration:
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    processor: Intel dual core
    memory: 3GB

    First try re-registering shell32.dll .....

    Open the Run box (if it's not listed in the right hand column of the Start menu you will find it under Accessories) and type in regsvr32 shell32.dll (note the space) followed by Enter. Reboot and see if the issue remains.

    Another possible cause is a third party shell extension .....

    Download ShellExView and disable all third party (non-Microsoft) extensions and test.

    If the issue is resolved re-enable one at a time, testing in between, until the culprit is found.

    Thank you very much for the quick reply PeteC
    Reregistering of the shell32.dll didn't work for me, but after installing ShellExView and disabling a couple of entries everybody works fine now.
