    My new system is:

    Gigabyte P55M-UD2 motherboard

Intel Core i5-750 chip Socket 1156

Gigabyte HD5770 R577UD-1GD ATI Radeon PCIe Graphics card

    Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2Gb) DDR3 RAM

    OCZ StealthXStream 600watt PSU

    2 x 500Gb Seagate SATA Hard drives

    Sony DVD-RW drive

I first tried to install Windows XP Home (as I had upgraded my old box with the above kit )and had the licence for it BUT it kept hanging on installation after mup.sys was loaded. Checked the forums and after a lot tearing my hair out, and not resolving the issue, I then (after consideration) decided to go for Windows 7 pro 64bit.

I am trying to clean install win 7. The boot sequence gets to boot from CD & the windows 7 logo appears on my screen. Then nothing. The cd powers down and the system is left hanging.

I have check the forums and it  to be either a floppy drive setting in the BIOS or the USB ports causing this.

So, what I have done so far is:

In the BIOS: I have loaded the fail-safe defaults. Disabled floppy drive A. Disabled the full screen logo (so I can POST info). Set the boot sequence to 1 CD, 2 HDD. Disabled the USB controllers.

In the box I have unplugged everything except:

    CD, Graphics card, 1 HDD.

    I also unplugged 1 x 2GB RAM module.

Externally I have swapped my USB cordless Microsoft mouse/keyboard and plugged in a PS2 keyboard (no mouse as I don't have a 2nd PS2 plug).

Windows 7 install gets to the same screen as described above and hangs.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really really appreciate them.

    Terri

I would start by making sure you have the latest BIOS (version F10).

Many thanks for that advise, Arie. I have now updated the Bios to F10.

I have now managed to install windows XP home, and am going to re-connect everything & run the Win 7 upgrade advisor before I do anything else.

OK. I have discovered that I had a faulty SATA data cable, which was responsible for a very unstable system, but not (unfortunately) responsible fr the installation problems listed above). Replaced that & the PC is a lot more stable now.

Still havn't run the Win 7 upgrade advisor yet. Will let you know more when I get there.
