    Hi everyone,

I have windows xp on my pc and recently have begun to have several problems, the most disturbing is that that PC switches itself off in the middle of a scan (avg and spybot too) so I worry it's not being scanned properly. Also the pc can shut itself down at random times.

And yesterday, I get an 'active desktop recovery' message on my desktop, with an option to 'click here' to restore it. Then I get a grey box with a message telling me that an error has occurred with the script on this page, it says the URL is "file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Catrin/Application%20Data/Microsoft/Internet%20Explorer/Desktop.htt "

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Catrin

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

Is it shutting down or rebooting?

If shutting down - heat and or a failing power supply are the likely culprits.
