hello, i am trying to find out why my OE msgs are showing as windows live msgs when i save them. see my husband is in the militarty and currently deployed and i have always saved his emails. today when i went to save his emails it showed that the type is now a windows live mail msg. and i am unable to reopen them. how do i change them back to outlook express mail msgs. i have mever used or installed windows live mail and so far i am not too happy with what it has done to the emails from my husband. pls can someone help me.

It must be the way you’re saving them, i.e. if you drag emails from an Outlook Express mail box to a 'back up' folder they become individual files with an .eml extension. This is perfectly alright as you can open Outlook Express, open the ‘back up’ folder, select them (Ctrl+A) and drag them to the relevant Outlook Express mail box.

thank you so much for that. i just wish there was an easier way. i have neve had my msgs save that way b4 and i have saved them the same way for years. after looking thru my new computer (which is the one i had the problem on) i see that i guess it came with the Windows Live. I do not plan on ever using this. is this something that i can delete without damagin any other program files on my computer and if so will that maybe have my emails revert back to the outlook express type files instead of them being windows live emails.

If you have a new machine presumably it has Windows 7, or at least, Vista installed. Neither of these use Outlook Express, Vista has Windows Mail installed (individual .eml files) and Windows 7 has no email client, but Windows Live Mail (.eml files) can be downloaded. Alternatively you can buy Outlook or use another of the free programs, like Thunderbird.
