    hard drive is western digital... attemping this procedure now. Thanks!
    It(my book) is primarily "not responding." I am told it may be normal when using external drives with Vista.

    will post asap....

    Ran the AV on external drive.... found nothing.

    Running Data Lifeguard. Claims to be a 5 hour run, so I will post results asap...thanks :)

    did the data lifeguard... "pass "

    Basically, your computer is malware free, so I'll mark this thread as resolved and I'll ask you to start a new thread regarding your external drive, in Windows, or hardware forum.
    You'll get more attention there, since the access to malware forum is very limited and it's not really designed for solving such kind of issues.
