    Hi folks

    Windows XP and Windows Vista

    I'm prepared installing OpenOffice on above Windows to experience the same. MS Office is already running on above Windows. Can OpenOffice coexist with MS Office on the same system? TIA

    Hi satimis. Yes you can have OpenOffice and Microsoft Office installed on the same system. I have seen many computers that have both office suites installed. There is not much point though in having both office suites installed since they both perform virtually the same tasks.

    Yes, with no problems.
    This is often done because OpenOffice Writer can be used to repair Word documents when Word cannot repair them. OpenOffice also has built in "Export As PDF ".

    CutePDF Writer also "prints" Office docs into a PDF format.

    I have had no problem in using both, although I prefer "Office" over "Open Office" solely for the speed of loading. Seems OO takes a good forty seconds (may be the way I have it set up?) over Office apps, in particular Excel.

    Still, FREE vs. A couple hundred (USD) Dollars wins for me every time!

    Best of luck with OO... it's a great idea!

    Hi frayedknotarts,

    To run OpenOffice.org you need the latest JRE (Java Runtime Environment) running on your Windows. Please check;

    http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

    After upgrade/install the latest version JRE you'll find the speed in running OO increased dramatically.

    I haven't run OO for sometimes. Recently I only tested it recommending the same to my church. Previously I found the wonderful feature on OOWriter in creating my own namecard. Additional to it is the "export to .pdf" feature. Tried them. You won't find these features on MS Office.

    We can find many value asset on Internet. Another wonderful software I'm going to introduce to my church is;

    http://www.gimp.org/

    the photo touching and graphic editing software. It's same a PhotoShop. They have Windows version, IIRC. There are many FREE software on Internet.

    Enjoy!!
