I'm using Outlook 2007. Occasionally recently I've created a message, hit "Send/Receive ", and seen the pop-up say "Sending 2 messages ". When I check my Sent Mail box, there's only the one that I had planned to send. I thought maybe I hadn't checked properly and had maybe had an unsent message waiting in the Outbox, so I just frowned let it ride:confused:. But today I was suspicious and went through the whole procedure very carefully. There's no doubt it told me I was sending 2 messages, but I really only sent one that I'm aware of.

Not that this happens every time - only now and then, which is why I don't have any empirical data to provide for analysis.

What's going on here? Is Microsoft sending information about me that I'm not authorising? If so, where? And what? Any ideas?

No big deal. As long as it sends only one, don't worry about it. I see it too on occasion, I don't care :D

Likewise - a couple of times may be since switching to Outlook last August.

As I recall it was 5 messages when in reality it was only 1.

And this doesn't trouble you guys? If these were loooong messages, I might have thought, OK, so when I send a long SMS my cellphone warns me "this is the equivalent of 2 SMSs, do you still want to send?" and I can understand that - I'm going to be billed for two. But these are short emails.

Arie - sorry if my first, spontaneous reaction was to blame Bill Gates. No offence intended. But I still find it weird and worrying. There's just so much **** going on about privacy these days - Facebook aside - and my first thought was that maybe somebody in Homeland or NSA or sitting on Menwith Hill has decided I've sent a trigger-word recently and they want to see what else I'm writing.

Of course, now I've really written some trigger-words and it's going to happen all day long for a while ;)

It certainly still troubles me, despite your kind reassurances...

Hi Steve. No, neither attachments nor pictures in this latest instance. No sexy auto-signatures, either. In the previous ones, I can't remember. But that's certainly something I'll look out for in future.

Someone had just pointed me to this thread, which is reassuring, and someone else has pointed out that if I really were a victim of spyware I'm not going to see evidence of it on my computer, so I guess I'll just persuade myself I'm reassured for now.

Darn it! That's the one, Pete - you were posting while I was drafting. Thanks!
