    Good evening everybody

I have recently purchased a new computer with Windows 98 and have upgraded Internet Explorer to the latest version 6.

Much to my frustration I find that when using the Internet, everything is fine for a short time, and then, alas, everything hangs.

This lasts for anything up to a minute, before everything then appears to be fine - and then, alas everything again hangs.

This is an ongoing problem, for which I have not yet found a solution.

Has any member of this Bulletin Board experienced similar problems, and if so have you managed to resolve it ?

Any recommended solutions would be most appreciated.

    Regards

    Mike Simmons

PS I have also posted this message on the Windows 98 board.

Mike, Here is a place to start. I gave you another post on the Windows 98 post but admin has closed that one so I could't edit.

    Similar problems

    Hello,
I'm having the exact same problems... and I'm convinced it's the newest version of internet explorer, because everything was fine until I had my computer reformatted and the techs installed IE 6 for me.
My question is, how do I get rid of IE 6 and install an older version (like the one that's on my WIN98 cd)? Is there a way to extract a setup file from the cd or do I need to dowload an older version before I uninstall IE6?
    Thanks.

    Hey Boo,

Uninstall IE is the place to get the IE6 gone.

I went to my MS Money program which had IE5.5 on it so I didn't have to download it. I have been using it for a couple of days now and no hangs so far.

Your Win98se CD has IE5.01 I think. If you do a reenstall over the top of windows, it will install that version of IE.

Silly question: how do you reinstall Windows if its not an update cd? Or do I use the setup that comes up as soon as I insert the cd?

Yes. Just as if you were installing for the first time.
