Is there a way to block users from installing software when they are logged on. I only want people who are listed as admins to be able to install software.
    Thanks,
    Enrique

    semi-pseudo-sorta-maybe-usually.

    How's that for a definitive answer. :)

There are some programs they will always be able to install if they have enough rights to use the PC. Mostly ones that will load completely within their user area and not try to add or use any system services/files. But that is a very small percentage and should be stuff that is pretty harmless.

Not positive about XP-home but with XP-Pro, putting their account into the Users group should pretty much do what you want. And if you are on a domain, putting "domain users" group into the local "users" group will do the same thing.

I am having problems with XP Pro. I never had any problems until I started adding user accounts. When I log on to my account, all is fine. But when the other user logs on, it keeps trying to install Veritas DLA and something with Microsoft Office... I dont know why this is happening. It just started. Any ideas??

Step #1 would be to do a complete virus scan using current def files. Don't expect anything but who knows.

Step #2 would be to check the run and runonce sections of your registry.

Is this with any new user or just some? And local users or are you on a domain?

Its all local users. I only have myself and one other user. I did a virus scan... nothing. What about the registry. What do I look for? It only does it on that user account, not mine.

First, create a new user account and see if it does the same. Post back since the place(s) you need to look will vary according to how the new account behaves.
